RITO'S CROWN
Details
Overview
A beloved family-owned landmark since 1977, Rito’s Mexican Food long operated out of a modest converted home in Phoenix’s Garfield District, drawing patrons from across the Valley for its storied take-out. When the owners decided to expand to an additional location in 2018, the challenge was to introduce full-service dining and a beverage program in a modern suite while maintaining the authentic spirit of the brand’s roots.
Accustomed to a highly compressed footprint—the original location lacked a dining room entirely—the owners tasked the design team with integrating a full bar, commercial kitchen, to-go window, and dining area into a compact, 1,616-square-foot suite originally intended to be used as a coffee shop. A strategic galley layout was implemented to maximize kitchen efficiency along a shared party wall, seamlessly serving both the dining room and a high-volume walk-up window. A Corten-clad exterior bar addition activates the courtyard, effectively expanding the interior footprint into the outdoors. Inside, custom tiered banquette millwork defines distinct dining zones with neighborhood views, while a vibrant palette of magenta, orange, and gold establishes a bold new brand identity.
