The Science Annex Renovation includes the complete interior renovation of 21,662 SF on floors Basement, L1 and L2 of Building 20 of the Northern Arizona University Campus. The project program at Level 01 and basement includes storage spaces, lecture halls and classrooms. Level 02 is comprised of departmental and faculty offices, additional future flexibility space and laboratory classrooms. Classrooms are designed to train future teachers in STEM education methodologies.

The project involved inherent occupancy separation and code issues that had to be mitigated during design and required an in depth code analysis that addressed the large occupant load on the spaces. The project scope included the design of a new HVAC system (including an infrared heating system) in an existing building with limited space. All spaces were reconfigured to remove obstructions and provide public/shared spaces along the perimeter that allow daylight to permeate the floor plate. There was a desire to have programmatically dense uses (more people) occupying a small space (higher density while meeting qualitative goals).
