As a part of AIA Arizona's Arid Cities Synergy Design Competition Lightvox Studio teamed with recent MArch, Ben Nelson to learn more about responsible water management in the Arid Southwest. Together, we produced re*COVER PHX,a proposal which seeks to create a vibrant urban environment within the downtown core and a new urban ecology with a goal of water neutrality in a live-work community.

As a cornerstone of the proposal, 1st Avenue of Downtown Phoenix is closed to automobile traffic, establishing a pedestrian and transit promenade that the urban environment desperately needs beneath a dual-purpose shade and rainwater harvesting canopy. Beneath the canopy are "follies" each housing pop-up entrepreneurs in a highly flexible configuration, as well as an urban market, Hostel, and a live-work tower offering a density of residents to the downtown corridor.
